Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a magnetic recording medium, which uses a high polymer film having low softening temperature as a base material, efficiently and successively on an industrial scale, by running the high polymer film in contact with a plane cooling substrate. CONSTITUTION:A film 14 of polyethylene terephthalate, etc., is transported, in contact with plane cooling substrates 23 and 24 cooled through a pipe 22 for a cooling medium, from a payoff reel 15 to a take-up reel 16, and vacuum deposition is carried out at a >=50 deg. angle of vapor incidence (to the normal of the film surface) through a shielding plate 25 by using vaporized particles 26 of ferrmagnetic metal from an electron beam vaporizing source 13.
