Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove defocusing due to astigmatism without the influence on the degree of falling compensation by using a cylinder lens constituting a common focusing optical system in a scanning vertical plane together with a scanning lens in addition to the use of a plane falling compensating lens. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder lens 7 arrayed in the side of a light source in comparison with a scanning lens 5 constitutes a common focusing optical system which uses a common focus together with the scanning lens 5 in a scanning vertical plane (sagittal plane) and light from the light source is passed through the scanning optical system in the scanning vertical plane to be made to parallel light flux and then focused in the scanning plane by a plane falling compensating cylinder lens 6. Since the cylinder lens has no inlfuence on a scanning plane (meridional plane), the light can be focused on a meridional plane focus, namely, the scanning plane of the scanning optical system. An astigmatism compensating lens causes the same effect on a deflector independently of the position in the side of the light source or the scanning lens 5.
