Abstract
PURPOSE:To attain wide range transmission characteristics, by depositing layers of oxidation reaction product having predetermined refractive index distribution successively to the outer surface of a core rod mounted vertically to the base attached to a rotating and pulling mechanism, using a plurality of burners each having a nozzle for blasting a raw material having different refractive index. CONSTITUTION:The core rod 1 is formed integrally with the cylindrical base 2 held with a rotating and pulling mechanism. Layers 5 of the oxidation reaction products having predetermined refractive index distribution are deposited successively to the outer surface of the core rod 1, e.g. by two burners 3, 4 each having a nozzle for blasting the raw material having different refractive index, and the layer 5 is vitrified to obtain synthesized glass layer 6. The core rod is removed, and the resultant hollow glass rod is heated and molten to obtain a solid rod.
