Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture the titled preform, easily, by depositing molten raw material continuously to the top of a heated rotating seed rod, quenching the molten material to form a glass rod, and annealing the rod. CONSTITUTION:The seed rod 3 is fixed with the collet chuck 16 and rotated with the motor 9. Powdery metal fluoride, etc. is dropped continuously from the raw material supplying tank 4 to the center of the ring heater 2 by the aid of the vibrator 8. The falling raw material powder is heated at about 1,000-1,200 deg.C with the heater 2, molten to form droplets, and deposited to the top of the seed rod 3. The seed rod is pulled down by the gear 11 for vertical transfer, and quenched to about 250-350 deg.C to form a glass rod, which is annealed in the annealing oven 19 at a definite temperature. The obtained preform 1 is transferred downward to obtain a preform for fluoride optical fiber continuously.
