Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the reproduction frequency characteristics, through excellent surface performance and accuracy of a silicon base, by adopting a construction where a MR film and a magnetic separation layr on the silicon base. CONSTITUTION:Number 41 shows a base made of a silicon or the like, and a non-conductive film layer 42 made of magnesium oxide is formed at the side surface entirely. A MR film 43 is formed on the surface of the layer 42. The MR film 43 is formed with 81.5% Ni, 16% Fe and 2.5% Cr, 340Angstrom thick under 2.4X10<-7> Torr. with the vacuum deposition method. A magnetite separation layer 44 is formed at a part of the film 43 and the layer 44 gives a bias to the MR element. The MR head reproducing end surface of the MR film 43 depends on the surface performance of the base 41 of silicon single crystal. Thus, the surface performance of the base 41 gives a large effect on the reproduction frequencey characteristics.
