Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve a high-output and high-density recording medium with high manufacturing yield, by forming a hard ferromagnetic substance layer including Fe, Ni, and Cr on or near an alloy thin plate surface so that the lower side of the layer is distinguished magnetically. CONSTITUTION:The medium is a magnetic recording medium made of an alloy thin plate, and the ion concentration of the specified atoms out of atoms constituting this alloy thin plate changes in the thickness direction of the thin plate. As a result of the concentration change, a hard ferro-magnetic substance layer including Fe, Ni and Cr on or near the surface of the alloy thin plate and having 100Angstrom -1mum thickness of >=2,500e corecive force is formed with magnetic distinction from the lower part. Further, the said hard ferromagnetic substance layer is formed so that the upper and lower parts are distinguished magnetically and a layer made of chromium oxide is formed on the upper part of this hard ferromagnetic substance layer is formed, allowing to improve the corrosion resistance and to increase the wear resistance.
