Abstract

PURPOSE:To avoid the increase in code error rate taken place at switching of a light source, by providing a delay circuit having a delay amount equal to the difference between transmission time during optical fiber transmission due to the difference of wavelengths of the light sources. CONSTITUTION:Outputs of a semiconductor laser 1 at present use and a semiconductor laser 2 for spare are led to a coupler 3 with optical fibers 13 and 14 and the outputs are transmitted to the photodetector side. If the output of the laser 2 is transmitted faster than that of the laser 1 in the optical fiber, an optical delay circuit 12 is inserted in the optical fiber 14. Thus, at the photodetector since the pulses from the lasers 1 and 2 reach at the same time, the production of code errors due to distorted waveform can be avoided.
