Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the coupling factor between an optical fiber and a light emitting diode and to increase the light receiving region, by increasing the diamters of both the core and cladding parts at the end of the optical fiber toward each end face. CONSTITUTION:Both the core and cladding parts 10 and 20 have a size equal to a normal optical fiber at the base end part respectively. These parts 10 and 20 are, however, formed so that each diameter is incresed toward a light emitting diode 5. Thus the diameter of the part 10 is set equal to or larger than that of the diode 5. The end face of the part 10 contacts with a window 8 provided to a case 7, and the window 8 has a size in accordance with the size of the end face of the part 10. As a result, the greater part of the light delivered from the diode 5 can be led to the part 10. Thus the coupling factor is increased between the diode 5 and the optical fiber.
