Abstract

The light waveguide has at least two optical fibres (1, 2) linked by means of a connector, in which the end of one (1) or both of the two fibres forms a truncated cone (3) defining the front face of the connection. The truncated cone (3) may be formed on the fibre (1) positioned on the transmission side and, in this case, the small base (of the cone), having a diameter less than that of the fibre, constitutes the front face of the connection. Alternatively, the truncated cone may be formed on the fibre positioned on the reception side and, in this case, the large base(of the cone), having a diameter greater than that of the fibre, constitutes the front face of the connection. The waveguide may include a liquid (pref. polyisobutylene), whose refractive index is close to that of the fibre cone, between the front faces of the fibres.
