Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a Josephson junction elemen which can be readily controlled at high integration with high reliability by forming the third electrode at a superconductor forming a Josephson junction and injecting quasi-particles from the electrode to the superconductor. CONSTITUTION:In a Josephson junction element 10 composed of two superconductors 1, 2 and a part 3 for coupling weakly them in a quantum mechanic manner, the third electrode 4 made of normal conductive metal or superconductive metal or semiconductor is attached through an insulating barrier 5 to one or both of the superconductors. When a semiconductor is used as an electrode, the barrier 5 can be omitted. The Josephson junction voltage can be controlled and switched by applying a voltage to quasi-particle injection electrode 4.
