Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the breaking of a cord by magnetizing a steel cord buried in a belt as a reinforcing material and by disposing a magnetism detecting device in a belt running path to detect a change in magnetic force of the belt. CONSTITUTION:A magnetizer 3 is disposed along a conveyer belt 1 having a steel cord 2 buried therein, whereby when the steel cord 2 is magnetized, one end 2a thereof becomes N-pole and the other end becomes S-pole. A magnetic force meter 4 is mounted along the belt 1 to measure the magnetic force of the belt. When the steel cord is broken into two lines, a new magnetic pole portion is formed at the breaking part so that magnetic forces at the end portions 2a, 2b becomes small, whereby a fault in the belt can be detected. Thus, since the breaking can be treated before a fault occurs in the belt 1, big trouble such as the cutting of the belt can be prevented.
