Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the configuration of the crank shaft of an engine in which cylinders are disposed horizontally on the opposite sides of the crank shaft, by employing such an arrangement that connecting rods associated with a pair of cylinders are fitted on a common crank pin in a freely rotatable manner at the end parts thereof located on the side of the crank shaft. CONSTITUTION:In a horizontally opposed two-cylinder engine, a pair of cylinders 7, 8 are disposed horizontally on the opposite sides of a crank shaft 1, and pistons 11, 12 are fitted in respective cylinders 7, 8 in a reciprocally movable manner. Here, the crank shaft 1 is formed at its rear end with a single crank pin 18. Further, a connecting rod 9 associated with one piston 11 is bifurcated at one end part, and the crank pin 18 is fitted into pin holes 39 formed at the bifurcated part of the connecting rod 9, while a pin hole formed at one end part of the other connecting rod 10 associated with piston 12 is fitted on the common crank pin 18 in a freely rotatable manner at the part thereof located at the middle of the bifurcated part of the connecting rod 9.
