Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove harmful components by oxidation as well as to utilize volatilized bromine and iodine availably by a method wherein ultraviolet rays are preliminarily irradiated to air to be treated and, after the irradiated air is connected to a bromide or iodide impregnated filter said air is passed through an activated carbon filter.
CONSTITUTION: Harmful substance containing air is sucked by a fan 4 and dust therein is removed by a coarse filter 1 and a dense filter 2. Ultraviolet rays are irradiated from an ultraviolet lamp 3 to generate O3 and O3 containing air is introduced into a chemical liquid impregnated filter 6 impregnated with an aqueous bromide or iodide solution sent by a solution supply pump 8. By this mechanism, bromine ion or iodine ione on the chemical liquid impregnated filter 6 is reacted with O3 in the air to be treated and the harmful components therein are oxidized with generated Br2 or I2. In addition, volatilized Br2 or I2 is collected by an activated carbon filter 5 in the succeeding stage and can be availably utilized in oxidizing harmful components.
