Abstract

CONSTITUTION: Activated carbon used in a condensate purifying system of a nuclear reactor is washed with an aqueous soln. of an org. acid such as oxalic acid or formic acid or a mixture of such org. acids at a suitable temp. to dissolve and remove soluble substances such as metallic salts and oxides remaining on the carbon. The carbon is well washed with pure water, and it is heated or exposed to radiation such as γ-rays to decompose and remove the residual org. acid. Thus, the activated carbon is purified. By this method chloride harmful to the purifying system can be removed.
