Abstract
PURPOSE: To permit the effective removal of scale in a short time by washing by the procedure in which scale is brought into contact with an acid solution and then with an alkaline solution containing a chelating agent when the scale of heat exchanger to heat organic waste water is removed.
CONSTITUTION: After washing heat exchanger to heat oranic waste water with an acid solution of nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, etc., it is further washed with an alkaline solution containing a chelating agent, e.g., gluconic acid, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or its water-soluble salts, etc., in order to remove scale. In this case, the concentration of acid is 0.1 to 10%, preferably 1 to 5%, the time of washing is 0.5 to 6 hours, preferably 2 to 4 hours, and the heating temperature is 50 to 100°C, preferably 60 to 90°C. Also, the concentration of alkaline solution is 0.1 to 10%, preferably 1 to 5%, the amount of chelating agent to add is 0.1 to 10%, preferably 0.5 to 5%, the time of washing is 0.5 to 6 hours, preferably 2 to 4 hours, and the heating temperature is 50 to 100°C, preferably 80 to 95°C.
