Abstract

PURPOSE: To decompose efficiently hydrogen peroxide in waste liquid, which is generated in the process of reacting sodium carbonate with hydrogen peroxide to produce sodium percarbonate, by heating the waste liquid at 40°C or higher under an agitating condition, and then neutralizing the heated waste liquid.
CONSTITUTION: The waste liquid, which is generated in the process of reacting sodium carbonate with hydrogen peroxide to produce sodium percarbonate, is heated at 40°C or higher in the presence of a Ca++-forming compound under an agitating condition, to decompose most of hydrogen peroxide. Thereafter, sodium carbonate in the waste liquid is neutralized with an acid, e.g. sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid, so as to make the pH value of the waste liquid about 7 and to convert the waste liquid into a drainage-allowable state. Calcium chloride, calcium nitrate or the like may be used as the said Ca++-forming compound. The Ca++-forming compound is added at a rate of an equal molW2mol to a stabilizer in the waste liquid. Heating is preferably done at 40W70°C by using waste steam generated in the sodium percarbonate-producing process.
