Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the coefficient of heat transfer, by increasing the area of heat transfer surface by using balls of glass, steel or the like as heating medium. CONSTITUTION:Vertical partition plates 4, 5 are erected in an enclosed box-like container 1 for forming hollow spaces 2, 3 at both end portions of the container 1. These spaces 2, 3 are respectively divided into upper spaces 2a, 3a and lower spaces 2b, 3b by means of horizontal partitions 6, 6. Further, a central space 7 in the container 1 is divided into a left chamber 10 and a right chamber 11 by a longitudinal center partition 8 which extends perpendicularly to the vertical partition plates 4, 5, and a gas diffusing plate 12 formed with many small holes is fixed horizontally substantially at the middle portion of the left and right chambers 10, 11, with a layer 13 of heating medium consisting of ball-shaped metal, glass, ceramics or the like being formed on the plate 12. Further, a high- temperature gas inlet port 14, low-temperature gas outlet port 15, low-temperature gas inlet port 16 and high-temperature gas outlet port 17 are formed respectively in the spaces 2, 3. With such an arrangement, it is enabled to obtain a regenerative heat exchanger which is excellent in its performance, easy to replace the heating medium and capable of handling even a corrosive gas.
