Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain powdered paint contg. a good hardener and a pigment uniformly dispersed therein, by laminating dry-mixed raw materials with one another, irradiating the laminate with infrared rays having a wavelenth of 3W10μm while carrying the laminate, supplying the laminate to a heated roll mill where the laminate is kneaded for a short time, and then cooling and crushing it.
CONSTITUTION: Raw materials such as resin powder, a hardner and a pigment are dry-mixed. The resulting powders are laminated with one another in an appropriate thickness (useally, 1W30mm). The laminated powder is irradiated with infrared rays having a wavelength of 3W10μm while being transported, whereby a thermally fusible resin component in the powder is fused in a short time (20W 200sec). Immediately thereafter, the powder is supplied to a heated roll mill where it is kneaded for a short time (a suitable residence time of the powder in the roll is 5W20sec). Then the powder is cooled and crushed to obtain the desired powdered paint. The pigment is sufficiently dispersed in this paint. Since the heat history of this paint is short, a reaction between the resin and the hardener does not proceed. Thus, this paint is particularly effective as low-temperature curable powdered paint.
