Abstract

PURPOSE: After the condensation reaction between a phenol and an aldehyde to a level of the A stage, the reaction mixture is continuously heated, cooled and solidified to produce continuously a solid resol resin that permits very easy maintenance of the facilities.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 1mol of a phenol or its derivative, (B) at least 1mol, based on component A, of an aldehyde and (C) an alkali catalyst such as aqueous ammonia are subjected to condensation reaction and the reaction is stopped at the A stage. Then, the reaction mixture is continously heated in a heating zone to proceed the reaction to the B stage and cooled in the cooling zone.
