Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce titled resin having a low coefficient of theremal expansion and bing capable of providing high-strength molds, by condensing a phenol, and aldehyde and tung oil by use of an alkaline catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A tung oil-modified phenol resin is obtained by condensing 100pts. wt. phenol, 10W30pts.wt. tung oil and an aldehyde, e.g., formaldehyde, in the presence of an alkaline catalyst, e.g., ammonia. Here, the following method is possible. Tung oil is previously reacted with a phenol, and the resulting tung oil-modifined phenol is condensed with an aldehyde.
