Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title resin capable of giving laminates with a high thickness accuracy, free from molding thin spots, by reacting a phenol with an aldehyde under specific conditions of the pH and molar ratio stepwise.
CONSTITUTION: A phenol (P) is reacted with an aldehyde (F) at a molar ratio of (F) to (P) of 0.55W0.75:1 in the presence of an acid catalyst to give a reaction product having a number-average molecular weight of 175W275, which is reacted with a formaldehyde at a molar ratio (F/P)≥1.07:1 under alkaline conditions by adding ammonia or an amine to give the desired resin varnish.
