Abstract

PURPOSE: A harmless solid fuel reduced in an amt. of CO evolved in the early stage of combustion, which is prepd. by at least partially compounding a solid fuel such as a briquet or an oval briquet with manganese slug.
CONSTITUTION: A solid fuel such as an ordinary briquet or an oval briquet is compounded with 0.5W20wt% manganese slug produced as a byproduct in the preparation of potassium permanganate, and molded and dried by the usual method. In the case of an inflammable briquet or an ignitable one, 1W20wt% manganese slug is incorporated in the inflaming portion or 0.5W30wt% in the igniting portion. The manganese slug reduces the amt. of CO evolved, probably because MnO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2, etc. in a manganese ore are oxidatively calcined together with KOH in a highly oxidative atmosphere during the preparation of potassium permanganate and then adequately hydrolyzed, so that each oxide becomes an active oxyhydroxide, which catalytically oxidizes CO and CO2 together with part of slaked lime and KOH added in the preparation of the potassium permanganate.
