Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove sulfur compds. as an alkaline earth metal surface and to make the simple and inexpensive treatment of fuel possible without emission of SO2, by mixing an alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide with sulfur-contg. fuel, and injecting and burning the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: An equivalent amount (based on the amount of sulfur in fuel) or a slightly excess amount of an alkalin earth metal oxide or hydroxide is mixed with fuel contg. sulfur or sulfur compds. and injected directly from a combustion burner for combustion. When the fuel is heated to 530W580°C in the reducing the flame zone of a stabilization zone, H2S evolved in said zone is set as an alkalin earth matal sulfide which is then oxidized in an oxidizing flame atmosphere at 1,000°C or higher to produce a combustion residue, thus suppressing SO2 generation. This combustion residue and a proper residue from the fuel are collected and removed in a melt- kneaded state by a dust collector.
