Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and to collect the titled antibiotic from a culture obtained by cultivating a bacterium belonging to the genus Streptomyces, capable of producing the titled antibiotic.
CONSTITUTION: A bacterium such as Streptomyces sp. K-64 (FERM-P 5387) belonging to the genus Streptomyces, capable of producing novel antibiotic mucopeptin C, is cultivated. A common medium comprising a carbon source, nitrogen source, and an inorganic salt is used as a medium. Any culture form, either liquid culture or solid culture, may be used, and aerated spinner culture is carried out. In order to obtain novel antibiotic mucopeptin C, it is separated from a culture filtrate through adsorption by using active carbon, ion exchange resin, etc., eluted with water-containing methanol, water-contaning acetone, etc., concentrated, precipitates are removed, and the novel antibiotic mucopeptin C is purified by silica gel adsorption chromatography, etc.
