Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula(R1 and R2 are H or acetyl with the proviso that R1 is not R2) and its salt.
EXAMPLE: Tetrocarcin E-1.
USE: An antibiotic. Having antibacterial actions and antitumor actions.
PROCESS: A bacterium[e.g., "Micromonospora chalcea" KY 11091(FERM-P 4458, NRRL 11,289), etc.] belonging to the genus "Micromonospora", having tetrocarcin E-1 and/or tetrocarcin E-2 producing ability, is subjected to liquid culture in a nutrient medium at 25W40°C, preferably at 28W38°C, in a pH 4W10. The culture solution is passed through a nonionic porous resin, so that a component having antibacterial activity is adsorbed on it. The adsorbed substance is desorbed with methanol, etc., adsorbed on active carbon, and eluted with a solvent, e.g., acetone, etc., to give a mixure of tetrocarcins, from which a compound shown by the formula is collected.
