Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate a machining condition in no relation to a machining speed, by detecting time proportion of no-arc discharge, arc discharge and short- circuit for a time of applying pulse voltage to an electrode and detecting only a pulse of the arc discharge. CONSTITUTION:Machining pulse voltage of electric discharge machining changes in accordance with an electric discharge condition, and its waveform is obtained as shown by Vga at a normal electric discharge. No-arc discharge voltage Vgd, arc discharge voltage Vgb and short-circuit voltage Vgc are decided by a comparator with threshold voltages E1, E2, and a generation time of these voltages is detected. These detection signals are obtained as the proportion for a machining pulse applying time and utilized for showing an electric discharge condition in no relation to a machining speed. When the waveform Vgb of only an arc discharge, not contained with no-arc discharge voltage, is continued a prescribed number of times, a detection signal F of abnormal arc discharge is generated.
