Abstract
PURPOSE:To construct a packing in a structure which is inflated by pressure water and is capable of omitting adjustment for keeping its sealing performance and preventing leakage of water and at the same time which does not require so much time for replacement of the packing. CONSTITUTION:A helical packing groove 2 of a shaft sealing box 1 is formed in such a size that a packing 3 can be inserted into the groove 2 with ease in the state that the packing 3 is not inflated with water, so that it can be inserted around a shaft 5 and drawn out to the outside with ease from its closed top end portion 9. When a seal water pipe 4 is connected to an opening end portion 10 of the packing 3 and pressure water is charged into the same after insertion of the packing 3 into the groove 2, the packing 3 is inflated and comes into tight contact with the outer surface of the shaft 5 since pressure of sealing water after subtraction of pressure loss caused by water ejected to the outside from small holes 6 is acted in the hollow packing 3. On the other hand, a small amount of water ejected to the outside from the small holes 6 of the packing 3 serves to lubricate the sliding surface between the packing 3 and shaft 5, so that frictional loss is not caused. Further, since the shaft sealing portion is sealed by positively by a sealing means 8 of a cover 7, pressure water is not leaked to the outside.
