Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a shaft sealing apparatus, in which a shaft sealing ring of resilient material is disposed in axially movable manner between opposite two faces fixed in either axial and circumferential directions, whereby it is enabled to reduce leakage of fluid, to lower the power for driving the apparatus and to improve slurryand vibration-resisting performance.
CONSTITUTION: Ring 3 fitted in casing 2 in tight contact with its inner surface has flanges 4, 5 at its opposite ends, and a shaft sealing ring 11 of resilient material is interposed between the above two flanges 4, 5. The shaft sealing ring 11 is fitted on shaft 1 such that it can be moved axially along the shaft 1 and also rotatable around the shaft 1, so that fairly complicated fluid passage is formed by the ring 3 and shaft sealing ring 11. This results in high resistance against flow of fluid X, Y through the passage, so that flow rate of fluid can be reduced. When pressure of fluid X becomes high, ring 11 is urged axially along shaft 1 until it comes into contact with face 10, thereby reducing leakage of fluid X. When the pressure differnce of fluid X and fluid Y is increased further, power required for driving the apparatus can be lowered since thickness of the fluid film at the sliding area of ring 11 is increased.
