Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent leakage of fluid and improve lubrication, vibration absorbing and resisting performance and productivity of bearing by the function of labyrinth obtained by helically winding metal wire that is coated with resilient material and fitting the helically wound metal wire in a cylindrical sleeve portion in the manner that its outer periphery is held in close contact with the inner surface of said cylindrical sleeve.
CONSTITUTION: Metal wire 2 coated with resilient material 1 is wound helically (as shown at 3 in the drawing), and the outer periphery of the helically wound metal wire 2 is held in tight contact with the inner surface of cylindrical sleeve portion 5 of housing 4. Small clearances 7 and large clearances 8 are formed alternately between the inner periphery of helically wound metal wire 2 and outer peripheral surface of shaft 6. With such an arrangement, when fluid X in housing 4 is going to leak toward fluid Y outside the housing 4, its flow speed is reduced at each small clearances 7 and energy loss is increased while repeating the same, so that leakage of fluid X toward fluid Y can be reduced. Thus, by the wedge function of helically wound metal wire and the function of resilient material coated thereon, it is enabled to improve lubrication and vibration absorbing and resisting performance of the bearing.
