Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a shaft sealing unit which has high productivity and low fluid flow rate by using a spirally wound circular flexible wire in cross section.
CONSTITUTION: There are provided a cylinder 3 on the inner periphery of a casing 2 and collars 4, 5 at both sides of a shaft sealing unit. A cylinder 6 is interposed between the collars 4 and 5 with a spiral member 7 of substantially circular wire W in cross section engaged with the inner periphery thereof. Thus, a gap 8 is formed between te minimum inner diameter of the spiral member 7 and the outer periphery of the shaft 1, and a gap 9 is formed between the wires of the spiral member 7. Thus, fluid X alternatively passes through a number of gaps 8 and 9 to thereby dissipate large energy to thereby reduce its pressure so as to provide low fluid leakage of the shaft sealing unit.
