Abstract
PURPOSE: To facilitate the maintenance of installation inside a fermenting vat, by dividing the interior of a reaction vessel, and arranging a partition member provided with a plurality of holes communicating to a gas-space pant under the water surface inside the reaction vessel to air-tightly seal the gas-space pant, opening means for the gas-space portion, etc..
CONSTITUTION: When a steam pipe 8 and an air-lift pipe 9 inside a fermenting vat 1 are to be maintained, a valve 17 is closed and a valve 18 is opened so that the upper portion 4 of a small chamber is filled with oxygen-free inert gas, e.g. CO2m harmless to bacteria through a line 16' and a valve 19 from a cylinder 16. In this way, only a part inside the fermenting vat 1 is substituted by a small volume of gas. Consequently, a required gas amount can be reduced, and the maintenace of internal installation can be performed without largely changing the environmental condition inside the fermenting vat. As a result, the maintenance of the internal installation can be done under the condition that the operation of the fermenting vat is till contained.
