Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the dry operation of a mechanical seal by arranging a circulating-water channel which allows a stuffing box and a steam separating chamber to comunicate and feeding the liquid in the steam separating chamber into the box due to the pressure difference between both chambers.

CONSTITUTION: The internal pressure in a stuffing box 14 in self-suction is decreased lower than the internal pressure in a steam separating chamber 16 by the discharging action of a runner 9, and by the pressure difference, the reisdual water in the steam separating chamber is steam-separated at an annular projection 12, and the water flows into the box 14 through a circulating-water channel consisting of a flowing port 17, water channel 19, and a small hole 18. The liquid having flowed into the box 14 is mixed with gas, and as the gas in the box 14 is discharged in a short time into the steam separating chamber 16 by the runner 9, dry operation of a mechanical seal 8 is nearly eliminated. The liquid which returns to the steam separating chamber 16 through the circulating-water channel in the runner 9 is mixed with the gas on the intake side, and discharged into the steam separating chamber 16.
