Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the treatment of excess sludge produced in a purification tank by providing a fermentation tank and a purification tank, and providing a sludge passage for feeding the excess sludge in the purification tank to a fermentation tank as well as a gate for opening and closing the sludge passage.
CONSTITUTION: When the methane fermentation in a fermentation chamber 2 progresses, the amt. of the gas in a gas accumulation part 2a increases, and the liquid level in the fermentation chamber lowers. At the same time, the liquid level in an upper liquid chamber 3 rises correspondingly, and part of the desorbed liquid in the upper liquid chamber is fed through a lead-in port 4a into an aeration chamber 4. In the chamber 4, the aerobic decomposition of the desorbed liquid is effected and sludge 18 settles partly on the bottom part thereof. The liquid after the treatment is transferred into a settling chamber 5. A sludge passage 14 provided with a freely openable and closable gate 15 communicating with a material feed port 6 is provided to the bottom part of the chamber 5. At the point of the time when the excess sludge 18 accumulates, the gate 15 is opened and the sludge is removed therethrough and is transferred into the port 6.
