Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the degradation in the quality of plated surfaces owing to the splashes of hot dipping metal by providing auxiliary nozzles to one end part of gas wiping nozzles for blowing excess plating metal in a continuous hot dipping device for steel strips. CONSTITUTION:Gases are blown through gas wiping nozzles 3' onto both surfaces of a steel strip 2 stuck with molten metal on both surfaces coming out from a metal hot dipping cell, whereby the excess molten metal for plating stuck on both surfaces of the strip 2 is blown off. In this case, auxiliary wiping nozzles 12 are mounted to one end part of the nozzles 3' to wipe the edge parts of the strip 2 by the gases more strongly than in the central part, so that the plating thickness is made uniform over the entire surface. Since only the nozzle 3' of one side exists on the outer side of the edge parts of the strip 2, the splashing of the molten metal stuck on the edge parts by the collision of the wiping gases against each other and the resticking of the molten metal on the plated surfaces, and the consequent degradation of the plated surfaces are obviated.
