Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high Mn nonmagnetic steel excellent in the corrosion resistance particularly pitting corrosion resistance, by decreasing the amount of C in a high Mn nonmagnetic steel and increasing the amount of N.
CONSTITUTION: The corrosion resistant nonmagnetic steel excellent in the corrosion resistance consists of 6W20wt% of Cr, 10W25wt% of Mn, 0.3W1wt% of N, at most 2wt% of Si and the balance substantially of Fe. To increase the strength of this corrosion resistant steel, up to 0.4% of C or up to 5% of Mo may be arbitrarily added. As this corrosion resistant nonmagnetic steel has corrosion resistance, particularly pitting corrosion resistnace, it can be used for those material which require corrosion resistance such as members for generators, structural members for neclear fusion reactors, members for ship building and the like that will be used under corrosive environments.
