Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the corrosion resistance, weldability and surface quality of the resulting titled steel and reduce the cost by adding an adequate amount each of Ti and Al to a high Cr steel with Si, Mn, C and N contents restricted to low levels.
CONSTITUTION: This ferritic stainless steel has a composition consisting of, by wt., ≤0.02% C, 0.1W0.6% Si, ≤0.50% Mn, <19W21% Cr, ≤0.015% N, (C+N)%× 15W0.6% Ti, 0.01W0.10% Al, ≤0.030% C+N and the balance essentially Fe. In spite of the low cost this steel is equal or superior to a conventional ferritic stainless steel contg.
