Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily manufacture a hot rolled steel strip excellent in the surface condition, by cooling a high temperature steel strip running out of a hot rolling line within a hot water bath, and then, by rolling the strip with a prescribed draft percentage, and next, by removing surface scales with a mechanical method.
CONSTITUTION: A steel strip 12 is coiled into a coil shape after a hot rolling pass; this coiled strip 12 is conveyed by a charging conveyor 13, is hung up by a crane traveling above a water cooling pit 15, and is submerged into the pit 15. The strip 12 is cooled to about 200°C by the hot water just tending to boil in the pit 15, and is rolled along an inclined bottom plane of the pit 15 as far as another end of the pit 15. The strip 12 is hung up by the crane, and is carried away by a conveyor 17. The strip coil 12 is then uncoiled and is fed to a skin pass mill wherein the strip 12 is rolled with a 0.5W4 draft percentage; hereby, the surface scale causes cracks. Finally, the cracked scales are removed by a mechanical method using a bursh, and the strip is subjected to a rust-preventive treatment and is coiled again into a coil shape.
