Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for pickling equipment and reduce pickling cost by Scotch-bright-polishing the hot rolled steel hoop and cold rolling the same without pickling and descaling the same.
CONSTITUTION: Thin scale has been deposited on the surfaces of the steel hoop manufactured through hot rolling and therefore it is rolled at a draft of 10% or over in that state, after which it is polished with brushes of vegetable fibers or synthetic fibers deposited with abrasive powder (Scotch bright polishing) to remove the deposited scale. Thid is then cold-rolled to the steel hoop of an intended thickness. The appearance of the surface of the steel plate by this treatment becomes a neat surface having luster if the draft is 10 to 50%. Hence, the scale removal at the rolling is accomplished at the 1 to 2 paths at the initial period of rolling. With tandem mills, the draft is made 10% or over and the scale removal is performed between the 1st and 2nd stands and with the reverse mills, the draft is made about 10% or over and the scale removal is performed at the pass rolling.
