Abstract
PURPOSE:To effectively suppress surface cracking by rolling a slab after subjecting the same to extra slow cooling down to hot rolling start temperature during cooling process in succession to melting and solidifying in direct feed rolling, etc. of the slab. CONSTITUTION:In direct feed rolling or hot charge rolling of a slab, it is subjected to extra slow cooling of 0.01-1 deg.C/sec. down to hot rolling start temperature during cooling process in succession to melting and solidifying, whereby harmful deposits are made harmless. Thence, it is subjected to hot rolling, whereby the slab surface cracking at the hot rolling is effectively suppressed.
