Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate (+) charging of a toner and prevent FP fragments from sticking on the surface of a photoreceptor and forming a thin film by treating the surfaces of carrier particles coated with fluoropolymer (FP) by means of an org. acid having carbon fluoride groups. CONSTITUTION:Carrier particles coated with a (co)polymer such as CF2=CF2 are immersed in a methanol soln. of the org. acid (an aromatic acid of which H of benzene nuclei or the like is substituted by C9H17SO3H, C9H17COOH, C9H17O groups or the like) having carbon fluoride groups expressed by formulas I, II, after which they are removed and the solvent is evaporated, whereby the surface treated carrier is obtained. This carrier can sufficiently charge the toner to (+) with weak agitating of a short time, and prevents the stripping of FP, the sticking thereof on the surface of a photoreceptor to form a thin film, and the consequent development defect of latent images and the formation of white streaks in copied images. In this way, more than tens of thousands of copied images are obtained continuously without the above-described drawbacks.
