Abstract

PURPOSE: To render the states of a photoreceptor before and after copying constant, by performing at least charging and uniform light exposure in the step preceding a copying step in the electrophotographic method using a photoreceptor of 2-layer structure made of cadmium sulfide.
CONSTITUTION: A copying process during rotation of photoreceptor 1 comprises a pretreatment step for exposing to negative polarity corona discharge from corona charger 2 and uniform light from uniform light illuminating unit 13; a step for charging photoreceptor 1 by negative polarity corona discharge of corona charger 2; a step for forming a toner image with developing unit 7; and a step for copying the toner image on paper 9. Charger 2 for negative corona discharge and unit 13 are energized during the first rotation of receptor 1 in order to render the trap state and the surface potential similar to those of receptor 1 after copying, thus permitting a copy of constant density to be obtained.
