Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare optically active allethrolone useful as a low-toxic insecticide, in high purity and yield, by the optical resolution of allethrolone using an optically active trans-2-bezamidocyclohexanecarboxylic acid as the optical resolution agent.
CONSTITUTION: Optically active trans-2-benzamidocyclohexanecarboxylic acid or its reactive drerivative is made to react with an acid-chlorinating agent (e.g. SOCl2) to obtain the acid chloride of the optically active carboxilic acid, which is dissolved together with optically impure allethrolone in an inert organic solvent. A pyridine base, etc. is added dropwise to the solution, and the resultant crystalline diastereomer ester is separated into the ester of (+)-allethrolone and the ester of (-)-allethrolone by fractional crystallization. After optical resolution, the ester is hydrolyzed at 0°C in water or in a water-containing solvent in the presence or absence of a base to afford optically active allethrolone.
