Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the high purity title compound, useful as an antiphlogistic, an analgesic and an antipyretic, in high yield in a simple process, by reacting a derivative of N-substituted-3-alkoxycarbonyl-3,4-epoxy-2-quinolinonimine novel compound with a base.
CONSTITUTION: A novel compound of formula III (R=lower alkyl) is oxidized e.g. with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of sodium tungstate or with acetonitrile and hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an alkali hydroxide to give a novel compound of formula I. The compound obtained is treated with an alkali, preferably alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate or bicarbonate, or with an alkaline earth metal hydroxide to afford the high purity title compound of formula II in high yield. The starting compound of formula III can be obtained easily in high yield by the condensation of a compound of formula IV and a compound of formula V.
