Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the yield and the operation efficiency in preparation of the title compound, by reacting a specific aromatic compound with an aliphatic halogenide, in the presence of nothing but the formed water, and an excessive amount of an alkali metal hydroxide, etc. to make the reactants into the close contact.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic OH-nuclear-substituted compound, e.g. a benzene derivative of the formula (X is H, halogen, 1W4C alkyl, etc.; n1=1W6; m1=6- n1), is reacted with a lower aliphatic halogenide, in the presence of an inert solvent, and nothing but the formed water, and an alkali (earth) metal hydroxide in a stoichiometric amount or more and two times or less, to obtain an aromatic alkyl ether compound. The reactants are brought into close contact and reacted advantageously in a short term, by making the formed water into a saturated aqueous layer unconcerned in the reaction, with an exceesive amount of an alkali (earth) metal hydroxide and a by-product metal halogenide.
