Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve weldability and work efficiency by adding a new controlling circuit to an output controlling unit of a consumable arc welding electric power source using control rectifier cells and thereby controlling output at the time of short and arcing.
CONSTITUTION: A short arc discrimination circuit 5 is installed to a consumable arc welding electric power source provided with plural control rectifier cells 11. A low current controlling circuit 8 and a high current controlling circuit 9 are installed in parallel to the output stage of the circuit 5. Further, current detector 6 for welding current used is installed, and a discriminating circuit 7 for high or low or welding current is provided in the output stage of the device 6. The structure is so arranged that when the welding current value used is in low current domain lower than previously set welding current value, conducting angle of the control rectifier cells 11 is made broader than the reference conducting angle that determines average welding output when short circuit and narrowed when arcing. It is also so structured that when the welding current value used is in high current domain higher than set welding current value, the conducting angle of the control rectifier cells 11 is narrowed when short circuit and broadened in case of arcing.
