Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent an overcurrent to be produced upon shorting without deteriorating the characteristics presented in a stationary state, by regenerating the energy of a smoothing condenser into the AC power source upon shorting via an auxiliary power unit consisting of a controlled rectifier and a reactor.
CONSTITUTION: Connected to a smothing condenser 4 in the output side is a diode 21 to which a constant current is supplied from a DC power source consisting of an insulating transformer 22, a controlled rectifier 23 and a reactor 24. Thus, upon shorting of load, the voltage across a diode 21 is detected by a detector 25 to shift the firing control angle of thyristor rectifier 2, and 23 toward the lag side, so that the energy of a reacror 3 and the energy of the reactor 24 and the condenser 4 are regenerated into the power source 1 via the thyristor rectifier 2 and the controlled rectifier 23 respectively. Therefore, the current flowing upon shorting is rapidly attenuated and hence an overcurrent can be prevented.
