Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare the titled catalyst showing a high catalytic activity against, especially, steam reforming reaction of a hydrocarbon and a long catalyst life by a method wherein a coating of a compound containing a transition metal element and/or an alkaline earth metal is formed on a surface of a Ni plate and, thereafter, oxidized at a high temp. in an O2 containing atmosphere and, subsequently, reduced in a reductive gas stream. CONSTITUTION:A compound containing a transition metal element such as Ti, Zr or the like and/or an alkaline earth metal element such as Ca, Mg or the like is dissolved or suspended in water or an org. solvent to form a solution. Subsequently, degreasing and pickling treatments are applied to a Ni steel plate processed into an optional shape to wash a surface thereof and, thereafter, a thin film of said compound is formed on the Ni steel plate by a method immersing said Ni steel plate in the aforementioned solution. Subsequently, the Ni steel plate having the thin film formed thereon is dried and, thereafter, oxidized at a high temp. of 1,000 deg.C or more in an O2 containing atmosphere. Next, the Ni steel plate subjected to oxidation treatment is subjected to reducing treatment in a gas stream of H2 or CO to obtain the objective Ni metal catalyst.
