Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst for the manufacture of synthetic natural gas having uniform and excellent catalytic activity, by supporting one or more Group VIII metals of the periodic table on a titanium oxide fiber.
CONSTITUTION: A solution containing a cation or complex cation of Group VIII metals of the periodic table, e.g., Fe, Co, Ni, etc., is brought into contact with a titanium oxide fiber, e.g., of TiO2, an alkali metal titanate, for ion exchanging. Then, the ion-exchanged titanium oxide fiber is filtered, washed with water, and dried. In case where anatase type titanium oxide is desired as a support, the titanium oxide fiber is baked at 800W1,100°C for 30minW10hr to obtain the objective catalyst. The solvent for the said solution is preferably made alkaline with ammonia. The catalyst thus obtained is applicable to reactions for manufacturing synthetic natural, CO conversion reaction, methanation reaction, steam-reforming reaction for hydrocarbons, etc.
