Abstract
PURPOSE: The titled composition transparent in a visible light range, capable of being prepared easily, suitable for mass production, capable of being processed into a thin film and a large area, having improved light converting ability, comprising a specific amount of a specified luminescent substance of water- soluble rare earth element-containing salt of organic carboxylic acid and a water-soluble polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble polymer (preferably polyvinyl alcohol, etc.) is blended with 0.02W12wt%, preferably 0.3W10wt% luminescent substance of water-soluble rare earth element-containing salt of organic carboxylic acid (preferably europium nicotinate, etc.) consisting of an organic carboxylic acid radical linked to an organic group having three or more conjugated groups (e.g., -C=C-, etc.) capable of being conjugated with carboxyl group and europium and/or terbium. For example, this composition is obtained by subjecting the water-soluble salt of the organic carboxylic acid and the water-soluble salt of europium to ion exchange to give a salt, dispersing the salt into the aqueous solution (pH of 3W8) of the water-soluble polymer, followed by drying. Exhibiting luminescence of rare earth element of its own by ultraviolet light rays, showing luminescence of red green.
