Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive fluorescent substance exhibiting a highly bright yellowish green luminescence suitable for the cathode-ray tube for television, by baking a mixture of ZnS raw material powder to which is added raw materials for Cu and Al activators and solid hydrogen sulfide.
CONSTITUTION: ZnS raw material powder, obtained by precipitation from a Zn ion- containing aqueous solution of pH 3 or less, is mixed with a Cu activator raw material (e.g., copper nitrate, copper sulfate, etc.), an Al activator raw material (e.g., aluminum sulfate, aluminum nitrate, etc.), and solid hydrogen sulfide and then the mixture is sufficiently ground in a mortar, etc. The solid hydrogen sulfide, obtained by adsorbing hydrogen sulfide on an organics, e.g., paraffin, etc., is used in approx. 0.05W5wt% on the basis of ZnS powder.
